Second Annual Mid-Summer Family Conference – July 27-29
Primary Speaker: The Rev. Thomas E. Tyson (retired, OPC) with OPC minister The Rev. Tony Monaghan
Theme: Music and the Christian Life – A Fun Conference for the Entire Family!
Details:
This Conference will be fun for the whole family! If you love our Labor Day Family Conference you will love this one, even if it is shorter. If you have never come to a Family Conference at MRCC, this will be a great conference to ‘try it out’ and see what you having been missing in the awesome fellowship and teaching that takes place here in the mountains. We will begin Friday evening and end Sunday afternoon, with enough time for you to drive home that evening. The shorter duration of this conference will help ease you into family camping… though once you come, the communion you experience with Christ’s Body will dispel any fear of the rustic life. The fellowship is tremendous, the food is always great, and the teaching is excellent.
What to expect at this conference (by Rev. Tyson, mod.):
Families are urged to bring their musical instruments to the conference: harps, harmonicas, drums, strings, woodwinds, recorders, triangles, banjoes, guitars, trumpets, etc… bring them all! Children (ages 6 or 7 and up) will be particularly welcomed into the seminars, and that they will enjoy it. This is not just for adults, though they will greatly benefit as well. The kids will be involved in such things as presenting their instruments and explaining how they are played (they will NOT be requested to "perform" musically, however, so they can relax), in composing an entirely new song (together with the whole group), in listening to some neat music, and in being free to contribute their ideas about what kind of music they would like (or not like) to use. All in all, the attendees’ involvement in the family and the church will be highlighted in connection with the use of, participation in, and worship of God through, music. The course is entitled "Music And The Christian Life," and that particular scope needs to be emphasized.
