About the Speaker: The Rev. Joseph A. Pipa, Jr., Ph.D. was born in Memphis, Tennessee. He is a graduate of Belhaven College and Reformed Theological Seminary in Jackson , Mississippi, and received a Ph.D. from Westminster Theological Seminary in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Dr. Pipa pastored the Tchula, Mississippi Presbyterian Church seven years, and pastored Covenant Presbyterian Church in Houston, Texas, for 10 ½ years. He wrote Sunday School material for Great Commission Publications for three years. He is the author of Root and Branch, a study of the person and work of Christ. Dr. Pipa also authored the book, The Lord's Day and The Westminster Confession of Faith Study Book: A Study Guide for Churches.
From 1990 until February 1998, Dr. Pipa, his wife, Carolyn, his daughter, Sara, and son, Joseph III lived in Escondido , California. Dr. Pipa was the Director of Advanced Studies and Associate Professor of Practical Theology at Westminster Theological Seminary in California. While there, he directed the Doctor of Ministry program in preaching and also taught systematic, historical, and practical theology on the Master's level. He was also the pastor of Trinity Presbyterian Church in America in Escondido , California. On January 1, 1998, Dr. Pipa became the first President of Greenville Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Greenville, South Carolina.
All singles of college age and up are invited as are non-OPC members. The cost is $57. If you would have difficulty paying the full cost but would like to attend, a small subsidy may become available and will be given as a rebate (you can indicate your need on the registration slip below and you will be contacted) or you may wish to request assistance from a deacon at your church.

All meals are included with the cost of the retreat. If you have any food allergies (nuts, dairy products, etc.), please describe them on the back of the registration form (including severity). We will contact you to let you know what can be accommodated. In some cases, you may need to bring your special food items. Showers are available. Please keep in mind that the weather may be cold.
Schedule: The retreat begins at 7 PM on Friday, 27 April and ends after lunch and cleanup on Sunday, 29 April.
Directions: From Interstate I-81, take Exit 225 for Route 262 South (Woodrow Wilson Parkway) just north of Staunton, VA. Route 262 is a bypass around the town of Staunton and was recently renamed from Route 275. After 5.5 miles take the exit for Churchville Ave. (aka Route 250) west. Proceed west on Route 250 for about 32 miles. You will pass through Churchville early on. For the last 10 or so miles you will cross three mountain ridges of which Shenandoah Mountain is the first. Beware of sharp hair pin turns going up and down the mountains. When you get to the town of McDowell, turn left on Route 678 immedately before the small church. Proceed south on Route 678 for about 8.9 miles. The entrance to the MRCC is on the right. Take the gravel road to the right of the Machen sign up to the conference center.
